Fatcow Web Hosting Review

About

FatCow was founded in 1998 as a web hosting company primarily aimed at small scale businesses and for individual users. Today, they are offering web hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS, and dedicated servers for anyone who would like to publish their site on the web. The company aims to provide an easy-to-use service that even beginner and intermediate users would be able to appreciate. But in truth, they also offer some features that will suit more advanced users.

Reliability

As far as reliability is concerned, FatCow has a great uptime guarantee for their clients. Sites have a 99.98% uptime which is definitely a huge plus considering their subscription rates. Added to that the fact that they are now one of the biggest web hosting companies in the market, that is really one good performance.

Features

For their basic web hosting plan, the Original FatCow Plan, you get tons of features that you may not be able to get anywhere. The plan has free site building and web analytics tools to help you get started. If you already have an existing site, they offer free FTP access. You get unlimited disk space, bandwidth, domains, and email accounts. They also have a script library, unlimited MySQL databases, Python, CGI, php 4 & 5 support.

They also have ecommerce features such as free online store, PayPal, PowerPay, and even credit card payments. They also come with shared SSL so you can be assured of site security. You also get marketing credits from Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Facebook, and free listing at Yellowpages.com. To top it up, you also get a free toll-free phone number and HubSpot's website grader.

You get unlimited email, WebMail Client, Spam Filtering and newsletter manager tools. The plan also comes with unlimited subdomains and automated domain renewal. They also offer one-click installations of applications such as Gallery2, Joomla, WordPress, phpBB, and GBook. You will also enjoy their counter tools, survey, and poll apps. They also offer an affiliate and referral program which will help you earn as you go.

Pricing

FatCow's subscription rates come in monthly, annual, 2-year, and 3-year plans. For their web hosting plan, they offer rates starting from $10.99, $9.99, and $8.99 consecutively. The Original FatCow Plan is being offered at a discount, $40 for one year, for first-time subscribers.

For their WordPress Hosting, the initial offers come at $3.75 per month for their WP Starter and $6.95 for WP Essential. After the initial term, rates for WP Starter come at $10.99 to $8.99 per month. WP Essential on the other hand, costs from $12.49 to $10.49 per month.

For VPS hosting, the rates for their basic plan are $24.99 per month for a monthly subscription, $22.49 per month for an annual subscription, and $21.24 per month for a two-year plan. For a Business plan, the rates are from $59.99 to $50.99 month. The Optimum Plan costs $99.99 up to $84.99 per month.

Their Dedicated Servers come in three plans: Startup, Professional, and Enterprise. Startup costs from $129.99 to $149.99 per month. Professional comes at $169.99 to $189.99 per month. While Enterprise costs from $209.99 to $239.99 a month.

It is interesting to note there is also an introductory price for new customers.

Support

FatCow's technical support team has that unique Heifercratic Oath which simply means that all issues are dealt with within just a few minutes. Their support team can be reached through different avenues: phone, email, and live chat. So far, their technical support had been satisfactory but you can't expect expert technical advice from them.

Security

FatCow employs SiteLock Security even in their basic plans and so far, there had been no complaints about any site security being compromised.

Rating: 8/10

FatCow has an overall rating of 8 out of 10 because they offer a wide range of features even when you only subscribe to their basic web hosting plan. Perhaps the downside to this company is that you cannot avail of cheaper subscriptions unless you agree to a lock-in period of either one or two years. This can be a very costly one-time payment for individuals who would like to apply for their web hosting services. But for small to medium-sized businesses, this is definitely a very good bargain since most businesses do not want to be bothered with monthly payments.

FatCow definitely has one of the best packages in the market especially with their marketing credits and affiliate program. Their full-packed packages also helps beginner and for those who do have much time or technical knowledge about setting up websites.
