PARENTS WON'T LET ME GO ON DATES

I'm going into 6th grade and a lot of people I know are already allowed to go on dates but my parents won't let me until I'm 18. I'm allowed to have a boyfriend but just not allowed go out on any dates. How can I get them to say yes, or do you think I'm too young?

Dear Amber,

Going on dates and falling in love marks a new stage in life. Love is a such a powerful thing that can controls the way you think, act, and even make you do crazy things! So I can understand why your parents won't let you go on any dates until your 18 when you are old and matured enough to not do anything stupid.

I also understand that you are feeling a bit left out because a lot of people around you are already going on dates. What I think you should do is try introducing your boyfriend to your parents. The reason why your parents won't let you go on dates is because they have no idea what your boyfriend is like. Inside they must be thinking he's some kind of druggy or high school bully that's going to do bad things to you if you two are alone, so your first step is to make your parents think differently. Maybe you can try little things like asking your boyfriend to come over to YOUR house while your parents are at home to do homework together. It would show them that your boyfriend really cares for you and isn't the bad boy they think he is.
