Losing Friends after Changing Schools

Hey Jesse Neo!

I've moved around all my life, state to state, town to town, city to city. My mom, her fianc? and I are in Casa Grande Arizona and I am really happy here! I have two best friends, Breanna and Cheyanne, and I'm like part of their family. We have known each other for a year and a half! It's been two months since we started 8th grade and my parents found a house 20 minutes away and they love it. They bought the house and we should be moving in soon. But I hate that I have to move away from my friends again! This time it really hurts. I'm going to be alone this year in a new school. My friends are the world to me! What should I do?

Signed,
  -Mandy Feller

Dear Mandy Feller,

Have you heard the saying that every ending is a new beginning? Don't be in grief that you'll be losing your best friends. I'm sure you'll make friends in your new school. And besides, it's only 20 minutes away. That is not a long way. Perhaps you could ask your parents to drive you back to your old town every few weeks and meet up with Breanna and Cheyanne. If they say no, you can always phone or talk to them on MSN or AIM. Writing letters is also great too.

If you would want more advice or hope to stay in contact with me, feel free to add me on MySpace and/or Facebook and/or Twitter! Just hit me up a message or comment anytime! I promise to reply to them all!

Best regards,
  -Jesse Neo

Totally agree, and in fact... this was the very resaon I stopped attending our state's homeschool convention. The year I just couldn't find time to go, they had whole blocks of time on the agrarian lifestyle interspersed with a few antivaccine lectures. This year, they had a speaker who has adopted 12 children with fetal alcohol syndrome. He is a legend in the field of FASD. I few years ago, I might have loved to listen to him. But, he isn't a homeschooler. And, what I needed as a mom homeschooling a child with FASD was related to her learning needs not on how to parenther in general.
