LIKING SOMEONE OLDER

Hey Jesse Neo!

I just turned 13 and I like this guy who is 16 and soon to be 17. I know there is a four years difference, but is what I'm doing a bad thing?

He is also my sister's ex boyfriend. I was helping him through the break up and me and him kind of grew onto each other. I?ve tried talking to my friends about it and they said that he is my sister's boyfriend and I should find someone else that is younger. I try telling them that he's not like the other guys because he doesn't really care if I'm ugly or hot. And besides I don't look for relationships based on looks anyway.

I'm just not sure what to do. Should I listen to my friends and find somebody else or should I try it and talk to him more?

Dear Brittney,

After a break up, everything that happened in that previous relationship is over and part of history! If you use that relationship as an excuse, then that relationship is not over. Because that relationship is over and he is no longer your sister's boyfriend, it is perfectly fine for you to date him. It is a normal thing to do.

The number between 13 and 17 may seem great but if you do some math it is only four years. For you now, it may seem a lot but after a few years, that four years can feel like a yesterday. As you grow older, you realise more that everyone are the same. No one has advantages over anyone and age is just a number.

I do not think what you are doing is wrong and you should definitely talk to this guy more, because after all, what's better than having an older boyfriend which has more experience and can give you good advice on troubles you?ll face in the future!
