DON'T FIT IN BUT NOT LOSE FRIENDS

Hey Jesse Neo!

I don't really fit in that much and I don't want to either. I'm perfectly happy with who I am but my friends are starting to think I'm giving them a bad reputation. No, I'm not some bad, mean, high-school drop out. I'm just exceedingly different from everyone else that I know of. I'm quiet, shy, insanely creative and I live in my own little world. I dress in a different style than they do and I also speak differently to them.

I don't want to lose my friends, but I don't want to change who I am to please them. How do I keep my friends without acting like someone I'm not? Or are they just not the right friends for me?

Signed,
  -Confused

Dear Confused,

It is alright that you don't want to fit in. Being perfectly happy alone is something many people can't do. It will make you a stronger person and let you depend on yourself rather than others. So basically you won't have to worry about having lonely nights, missing someone, etc. To be honest, that's actually a blessing that you've suddenly got a load of burdens off you!

But if you want to have some friends, you will need to socialize with them because after all, that's what friends are for! If you do want to have friends and be alone, perhaps you can have at talk to them explaining how you like living in your own mysterious world and tell them not to worry about you, but do remember to let them know that you will always be there for them whenever they need you. Maybe afterwards things will work out, and if not, you can always go back to your friends and get all the support again.

A good tip for you may be telling your friends to try letting you be alone for a while explaining you want to be more independent, creative and unique to make you stronger and rant about all thing positive things you'll get out from it. I'm sure they would understand you!

If you would want more advice or hope to stay in contact with me, feel free to add me on MySpace and/or Facebook and/or Twitter! Just hit me up a message or comment anytime! I promise to reply to them all!

Best regards,
  -Jesse Neo
