How To Do Digital Art

Have you always to make beautiful art works on your computer but don't know how? If you are, you have come to the right place! Here is a tutorial on how to make digital art, you can use it for the Beauty Contest at Neopets or maybe for your website... Who knows?

Intro: So you want to draw? Well, if you want to draw most things, you'll need some art supplies and the most common art supplies are a paper and pencil. You may see someone from time to time who does their entire drawing from start to finish in pen, but you can't correct mistakes in pen so I suggest you use pencil. For my drawing, I use pacers or "mechanical pencils" because I won't need to worry about sharpening it and the lead is always sharp. For the paper, you can use any paper you like. Most of the time I use the papers from my sketch book or just some normal A4 paper. You can use lined-paper if you like but I don't really like it because it makes me look cheap. Lol. If you make a mistake, it doesn't mean you can't draw, it just means you need to practise more or "day dream more". Did you know people that people that day dream a lot are usually very creative? Now, if you do make a mistake, you will need a eraser. I suggest you don't use the eraser on the top of your pencil but instead buy a proper one. Now, if you want to do digital art, you will need to have a art program like 'Paint Shop Pro' or 'Photoshop' but these program cost money and a lot of it. Some programs allow you to download a free trial of it from there website so I suggest you download one first before you buy it. If you can't afford one, you can always download some free one like 'The Gimp' but of course, free ones are not as good as payed one. Many People who does art on there computer usually use something called a tablet. A tablet is basically a digital pen and board which you plug into your computer. The board is the screen and the pen is the mouse. What ever you draw on the board with your pen comes out on the screen. Below is a picture of my tablet:

 

Main: Now to begin drawing, you must first draw what you want on your digital art on a piece of paper. What you draw doesn't have to be perfect. When you are drawing it, try not to sketch but instead draw lines. If you do sketch, use a black pen or texta to draw over your lines when you have finish. If you are going to do that, be sure to rub off the pencil marks afterwards. Below is an example of what it should look like:

The next stage is to scan it onto your computer using a scanner, after you have scanned it, open it at paint and then position your work. After you have done that, save it onto your computer and then open it up in your drawing program. The drawing program I use is Photoshop. Below is a example of what I mean by positioning it in Paint:

 

Now this is the tricky part, you must now trace your work on the computer. Get a round brush and make it to a small size like 5. Now you must carefully use it to trace your work. A good idea is to trace it on a different layer. Now when your tracing it, it is a good time to use your tablet. If this is your first time using a tablet, it can be a bit tricky but you can get use to it after some time. After you have traced it, erase the mark made by your pencil so that the only lines are the lines you just drew in your program. It should look like this:

The next step now is to colour it. You can color it on a different layer if you like and try to colour it inside the line. In some programs, lighter colours can't go on top of darker colours so if you traced your picture with a black brush, nothing can go on top of it. After you have coloured it, you may want to draw a background. On most of my art works that I do usually have a background because drawing without a backgrounds makes me looks cheap and lazy. But you don't have to if you don't want to. After you have drew the background, you are done! But you can add some extras if you like. You may want to add some mists or some stars on it to give it a real life effect! Below is the finish product!
